Since last year, Indian cinemas have experienced a resurgence of classic films being re-released, encompassing works from Raj Kapoor's renowned films to cult classics that initially did not achieve significant success. Notably, Tumbbad and Laila Majnu exemplify the triumph of re-releases in India. Tumbbad garnered ₹32 crore during its second screening, while Laila Majnu accrued ₹12 crore. Remarkably, these films surpassed the re-release earnings of Shah Rukh Khan's Devdas and Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham. However, a lesser-known film devoid of star power has once again outperformed all of them.
Sanam Teri Kasam re-release box office
Sanam Teri Kasam has achieved remarkable success at the box office, nearly nine years after its initial release. The film, featuring Harshvardhan Rane and Mawra Hocane, performed poorly upon its debut in 2016, garnering merely ₹8 crore and being classified as a box office failure. However, its re-release in 2025 has shattered previous records. The film opened with an impressive ₹4.25 crore during its re-release and has now claimed the title of the highest-grossing Indian re-release, surpassing another notable comeback, Tummbad.
As reported by Sacnilk, the film Sanam Teri Kasam has generated ₹33 crore from its re-release, bringing its total domestic net to ₹41.35 crore and its worldwide gross to ₹53 crore. Notably, around ₹45 crore of this total has been attributed to the re-release, which is a remarkable achievement.
How Sanam Teri Kasam beat Tumbbad
Sanam Teri Kasam has now achieved the status of the highest-grossing Indian film following its re-release. Previously, this title was held by Vijay's Tamil blockbuster Ghilli for an extended period. Ghilli was the first film to surpass the ₹30 crore mark upon re-release. Last year, Tumbbad, another cult classic akin to Sanam Teri Kasam, set a new benchmark with a domestic collection of ₹32 crore. However, Sanam Teri Kasam has surpassed this figure, amassing ₹33 crore domestically, and continues to perform well, generating over ₹1 crore in its third week of re-release.

The only significant change since then is my marriage. The film has always existed, and all the elements were in place. However, I genuinely feel that it is the luck associated with my marriage, as the dates are exactly the same."
