Salman Khan's Sikandar Falls Short of Tiger 3's Opening Day Numbers, Struggling to Impress on Eid
2 days ago | 5 Views
Last week, since the advance bookings for Sikandar kicked off, we've been keeping a close eye on its box office performance. This film, featuring Salman Khan and Rashmika Mandanna in the lead, is one of the year's most awaited releases and finally premiered yesterday after a lot of back-and-forth regarding its launch.
Now that we're into day two, the first day's numbers are in, and they don't look too great for a Salman Khan film, especially one that debuted on Eid. What's even more troubling is that it hasn't even reached the opening-day earnings of Tiger 3, let alone exceeded them.
Sikandar vs. Tiger 3: Opening Day Earnings
Salman Khan last connected with his fans on Eid during the release of Tiger 3, which also premiered on a Sunday. This film, part of Yash Raj Films' popular Spy Universe, became one of the year's biggest hits.
With the release of Sikandar, it's natural to compare it to Tiger 3, which debuted on November 12, 2023. As reported by Sacnilk, Sikandar made around ₹26 crore on its opening day, which is significantly lower than what was anticipated for the film.
What’s even more alarming is that initial forecasts likened its hype to that of Tiger 3, hinting that Sikandar could achieve similar box office success as the YRF film did in 2023. Unfortunately, the movie hasn’t even come close to matching Tiger 3’s opening day revenue, much less exceeding it.
Katrina Kaif's film raked in ₹53 crore on its first day, which means Sikandar is trailing by almost 50%.
Sikandar Overview
Sanjay Rajkot (played by Salman Khan) is the ruler of Rajkot and holds a significant 25% of India's gold reserves. He spends his days devoted to helping those in need. His wife, Saishri (Rashmika Mandanna), is his unwavering support, ready to face any challenges that arise.
Sanjay has committed himself to serving the less fortunate and has established a network that supports his efforts and stands by him during tough times.
When he decides to discipline a pampered politician's son from Mumbai, he inadvertently brings trouble upon himself. The politician, Sathyaraj, now has a vendetta against him—known as Sikandar or Rajasaheb—and wants him dead. In the midst of this turmoil, a tragedy occurs, resulting in the loss of Saishri. Her organs are donated throughout Mumbai, and now Sikandar has to ensure the safety of the recipients at any cost.
Starring Salman Khan and Rashmika Mandanna, along with Sathyaraj, Sharman Joshi, Prateik Babbar, Kajal Aggarwal, Anjani Dhawan, and a talented supporting cast, the film is produced by Sajid Nadiadwala and directed by the renowned A.R. Murugadoss. It is set to hit theaters on March 30, 2025.
