It's not just the high-budget Malayalam action flicks like Mohanlal's L2: Empuraan and Unni Mukundan's hit Marco that have generated a lot of buzz before their premieres. Even smaller films featuring talented actors, without any major stars, are eagerly awaited by fans. A recent case in point is director Sreejith Babu’s Painkili, which stars Sajin Gopu from Aavesham and Romancham, along with Anaswara Rajan, who appeared in Rekhachithram, currently available for streaming.

After a brief run in theaters, this quirky comedy, written by Aavesham's director Jithu Madhavan, is gearing up for its OTT debut on two popular streaming platforms just in time for Vishu.

Painkili set to launch on various OTT platforms

The movie, featuring two quirky characters, premiered in theaters on February 14, 2025. With actor Fahadh Faasil backing it and co-producing the successful 2024 Valentine’s Day film Premalu, expectations for Painkili were sky-high.

While it didn't quite meet those lofty standards, the film had its standout moments, thanks to Jithu's writing and some exaggerated performances from Sajin and the rest of the cast. These moments are likely to gain recognition once the film is available on OTT platforms.

Originally, Painkili was set to be released on Manorama Max on April 11. However, based on recent trends, particularly with films like Vineeth Sreenivasan’s Oru Jaathi Jathakam and Soubin Shahir’s Machante Maalakha, it seems Painkili might first appear on Manorama Max and then later be accessible on Amazon Prime Video the same day.
