Roopesh Shetty on "Adhipatra": Making Films Isn't the Goal, Making Films People Watch Is

Before Roopesh Shetty became the winner of Bigg Boss Kannada 9, he had already set his sights on the film industry. Back then, he wasn't quite sure about the specifics of his path, but he felt a strong pull towards acting. Growing up in a middle-class family in Mangaluru, he understood that breaking into the film scene wouldn't be a walk in the park.

Roopesh chatted with Kairam Vaashi while promoting his upcoming Kannada film, Adhipatra, set to hit theaters on February 7. He mentioned that when he first began his career, he realized he was a jack of all trades but a master of none. He dabbled in various fields like mono-acting, Yakshagana, Tulu rap for music albums, and even worked on a telefilm, along with cricket commentary and radio jockeying.

Roopesh Shetty shares how he changed the course of his career

Roopesh quickly figured something out once he started receiving movie offers in both Tulu and Kannada cinema. “After working on about 8 films that didn’t really make a splash, it hit me that making movies isn’t the main thing; what really counts is being part of films that people actually want to see. By that point, I had come a long way and realized I needed to carve my own path. Considering all the effort I put into breaking into the industry, why not channel that same energy into filmmaking? That’s when I decided to direct Girgit,” Roopesh shares.

Roopesh's career took a major turn after his Tulu comedy film became a huge success. He then directed Circus, which also performed well, and has just finished his third project, Jai, while still taking on a few Kannada films here and there. His latest venture, Adhipatra, features him as a cop on the hunt for a serial killer thought to be a Brahmarakshasa. But is it really a supernatural being, or is there something else going on? That’s the main question in director Chayan Shetty’s film, which also includes Jhanvi, Deepak Rai, Prakash Thuminad, and more.
