Two months following its theatrical debut, Loveyapa is poised for its release on OTT platforms. This romantic comedy stars Khushi Kapoor and Junaid Khan in the principal roles and will be available for streaming on JioHotstar starting April 4, 2025. Directed by Advait Chandan, Loveyapa is the Bollywood adaptation of the 2022 Tamil film Love Today. The story revolves around a young couple who are compelled to swap their phones prior to their wedding.

Loveyapa plot and premise

At the core of Loveyapa lies the modern romance between Baani and Gaurav. Like many Gen-Z couples, they find it difficult to be apart from their phones, even though their love for each other runs deep. Tension arises in their relationship when Atul, Baani's traditional and somewhat skeptical father, decides to test the strength of their bond. He challenges Baani and Gaurav to exchange their unlocked phones for an entire night, granting him complete access to their messages, photos, and social media accounts. The intention behind this challenge is to reveal any secrets or hidden issues that might suggest a lack of trust or compatibility between them.

Both individuals exhibit confidence from the beginning, believing there is nothing to hide. Upon examining each other's phones, they uncover new aspects of one another's lives. Baani learns of Gaurav's flirtatious messages with other women, while Gaurav becomes aware of Baani's questionable past relationships and dubious online interactions. This leads to a series of confrontations and arguments triggered by these revelations. The film explores the prevalence of misunderstandings in our current digital age, where nuances are often obscured and initial perceptions can be misleading. It also touches on the unrealistic pressures faced by today's youth to curate an idealized online persona.

As the evening unfolds, Baani and Gaurav are compelled to face their insecurities and vulnerabilities. It becomes essential to assess whether the truths they have uncovered are significant or merely remnants of each other's past. Ultimately, the film poses the question of whether genuine love can endure in this digital landscape.

Theatrical release and box office performance

On February 7, 2025, the movie Loveyapa was released in theaters. It garnered a range of reviews and struggled to achieve success at the box office.

Loveyapa experienced a lackluster opening weekend, generating merely ₹4.25 crore (approximately US$490,000) in domestic revenue. Its estimated global earnings ranged from ₹8.80 crore to ₹12 crore, marking the conclusion of its theatrical release.
