It's the day of the San Diego Comic-Con, and it turns out the day just got wilder because Kevin Feige has decided to make the wildest announcement of the night in the most dramatic way. The announcement of a new title for Avengers 5 and the Russo Brothers returning to their rightful job was everything we expected from Feige’s time on stage concerning the Avengers films. But that's not all because the Marvel Cinematic Universe president casually dropped the biggest shock of the night by announcing Doctor Doom, aka Victor Von Doom, as the new big villain, and revealing who will play him.

Iron Man Robert Downey Jr. Returns But As Doctor Doom

Yes, you heard that right. A man dressed as Doctor Doom was on stage as the new title of Avengers 5 was revealed. The film that was earlier titled Avengers: The Kang Dynasty is now retitled Avengers: Doomsday, signifying that Doctor Doom will be the new Big Villain of the MCU for the upcoming future, and he will be played by none other than Iron Man star Robert Downey Jr. In a historic turn of events, RDJ has been cast as the villainous Victor Von Doom after wrapping up his time as the MCU patriarch Iron Man. Read on to learn everything you should know about the same.

As per the events that unfolded on the center stage at the San Diego Comic-Con where the Hall H event for the Marvel Cinematic Universe was underway, Avengers 5 ended up being retitled Avengers: Doomsday. The movie, as per the new calendar, hits the big screen in May 2027. Additionally, we saw the Russo Brothers walk up on stage to take on the duties of directors for both the next Avengers movies, including Avengers: Secret Wars. But wait, is that a man dressed as Doctor Doom? He comes to the center, moves his hand towards the mask, takes it off, and boom, it's Robert Downey Jr.

The Iron Man star who bid adieu to Tony Stark in Avengers: Endgame was the most talked-about actor in recent days. Kevin Feige teased that his return was possible, but none of us imagined he would return as the big villain of the MCU, and the Multiverse would make it possible. His return also means the studio has confirmed they are moving away from Kang the Conqueror, played by Jonathan Majors. There is no update on how they plan to reintroduce RDJ, considering he has a strong stamp as Iron Man in the MCU.

What Happened With The Kang Dynasty

After Jonathan Majors was accused and later found guilty of assault charges, the studio cut all ties with him as they fired the star. Before that, he was being shaped up as the Thanos-level threat to the Multiverse Saga, and suddenly the studio was left with no option but to part ways. Rather than casting a new face, they thought it was good to change the entire storyline. So Avengers: The Kang Dynasty was soon renamed as Avengers 5. Now, as they have figured out what to do, the new title is Avengers: Doomsday with Jonathan Majors out and Robert Downey Jr. in as Doctor Doom.

Avengers: Doomsday, directed by the Russo Brothers and starring RDJ, is all set to hit the big screens in May 2026. Stay tuned to OTTplay for more information on this and everything else from the world of streaming and films.
