The film Laughing Buddha, created by Rishab Shetty, known for his work on Kantara, and featuring his associate Pramod Shetty in the leading role, premiered in theaters in late August of the previous year and became available on OTT platforms approximately six weeks later. It is now set to transition to a second streaming service under a non-exclusive agreement. Directed by Bharath Raj M, who previously collaborated with Rishab Shetty on the film Hero, Laughing Buddha has been accessible on Amazon Prime Video since October 18, and Sun Network has recently announced its upcoming availability on Sun NXT.

Starting April 25, 2025, Laughing Buddha will be accessible on Sun NXT, coinciding with the film's six-month tenure on Prime Video. It is likely that the original contract was a six-month hybrid arrangement that is now nearing its conclusion. Additionally, Rishab has recently transferred another production, Shivamma, to Sun NXT, the same platform that features his National Award-winning film Sarkaari Hiriya Praathamika Shaale, Kaasaragodu, Kodugé: Raamanna Rai.

All about Pramod Shetty's Laughing Buddha

In the film Laughing Buddha, Pramod Shetty portrays a gentle and food-enthusiastic constable named Govardhan. His unique ability to engage petty criminals and elicit confessions over delicious home-cooked meals proves to be highly effective for the police station. Consequently, when a thief who has pilfered from the local MLA suffers from amnesia following an altercation with the Sub-Inspector, Govardhan is summoned to employ his 'culinary charm' to determine whether the suspect is genuinely forgetful or merely pretending to be unaware of the location of the stolen money.

Diganth portrays the character of the crook, a role originally intended for Rishab, who has since shifted his focus to the production of the upcoming installment in the Kantara universe – Kantara: Chapter 1, scheduled for release in theaters on October 2, 2025. This ambitious project, set in the Kadamba dynasty, faced rumors of production delays; however, Hombale Films has dispelled these concerns, affirming that the film will be released as scheduled, three years after the original Kantara.
