Roaring Star Sriimurali’s Bagheera, which was in the making for 3 years, is finally hitting theatres for Deepavali. The Dr Suri directorial has been censored U/A, clearing the way for its October 31 theatrical release. According to the certification, the team had to remove only one instance of an objectionable word and had to insert a couple of disclaimers to get this certification.
The film, which was Sriimurali as a masked vigilante, is an origin story, delving into how an upright IPS officer ends up working outside of the law and taking extreme measures to curb evil, as has been confirmed in the plot synopsis of Bagheera’s censor certificate.
Bagheera run-time and plot details
Dr Suri has said that Bagheera is action-packed, but also quite the emotional drama; there are backstories for the protagonist and the antagonist – one about why a cop turns vigilante and another about how he came to have a half-burnt face. All of this has been bundled into a film that is 2 hours 38 and a half minutes long, including the title and end credits, which is actually quite crisp, considering the amount of material that’s been promised.
Bagheera, which is based on a story by Ugramm, KGF and Salaar maker Prashant Neel, was developed by Dr Suri, and follows Vedanth, a police officer, who dreamt of being a superhero as a child, who realizes that he can’t provide justice by staying in the system. Sriimurali is paired with Rukmini Vasanth in the film, while KGF’s Garuda Ram is the main antagonist. Also on the cast are Prakash Raj, Achyuth Kumar and Sudharani, among others.
In an interview with OTTplay, the filmmaker did not rule out the possibility of turning Bagheera into a franchise, like other Hollywood superhero movi es. However, this would depend on whether or not audiences appreciate the first one, he said.
