Suriya is poised to commence the year 2025 with an exciting update regarding his forthcoming film, Retro. His previous release, Kanguva, did not meet the expectations of the audience. On January 1, 2025, Suriya utilized his X account to unveil a new poster for his 44th film, titled Retro.

In the poster, Suriya exudes a stylish aura, dressed in a sea blue jacket paired with jeans. He is positioned next to his car in a field, gazing forward. The poster features the message, ‘Happy New Year’. In the accompanying caption, Suriya expressed, "Happy 2025! Wishing you abundant love, light, and happiness! #RETRO".

The film's tagline is: Love, Laughter, and War. The musical score is created by Santhosh Narayanan, with cinematography managed by Shreyaas Krishna and editing conducted by Shafique Mohamed Ali.

Suriya recently released the teaser for his upcoming film during the Christmas celebrations last week. In the teaser, he is depicted addressing Pooja Hegde's character, stating, “I will manage my temper. I will cease working with my father. From this moment, I will abandon violence, rowdyism, and hooliganism. I will strive to smile and find happiness. The purpose of my existence, in your terms, my Dhammam, is love. Pure love. That is all. I am expressing it clearly and directly. Now, tell me, should we proceed with marriage?” The remainder of the teaser features rapid glimpses of Suriya's life as a gangster.

Suriya's most recent appearance was in Kanguva, where he portrayed a warrior named Kanguva. He also takes on the role of a bounty hunter named Francis. The film included performances by Disha Patani and Sunny Deol.

Audience reactions to the film were varied, with some lauding Suriya's performance while others criticized the film's overwhelming sound mix and the writing and direction by Siva.
