The newest Malayalam film making waves with both audiences and critics is Rekhachithram, directed by Jofin T Chacko and starring Asif Ali and Anaswara Rajan. This mystery-thriller pays homage to the Malayalam cinema of the 80s and hit theaters nearly four years after Jofin's first film, The Priest. While the film's success is impressive, it comes with a touch of sadness for the director.

On Saturday, after the film raked in over Rs 7.4 Cr in its first three days, Jofin took to social media to share a heartfelt message, dedicating the film and its success to his late father.

Rekhachithram's director Jofin is dedicating the film to his dad

Jofin shared in his post that his dad was a pretty strict guy who never bothered to catch movies in theaters. A decade back, when everyone was against his choice to dive into cinema, he mentioned that his father stood by him, despite not knowing much about the film world. His dad told him, "If this is what you want, give it a shot. If it doesn’t pan out, then move on to something else. Don’t live with regrets."

The filmmaker noted that those encouraging words pushed him to head to Kochi and chase his dream. He also mentioned that his dad felt disappointed it took him four years to finish his second film, which is why he didn’t read the script for Rekhachithram.

Once everything was in place and we were all set to kick off the shoot, there was this one day when Asikka (Asif Ali) and I were going through the script together, and my dad stepped out for a bit," he shared. This was on February 14, 2024.

Jofin mentioned that he really wished his dad could have heard all the great feedback for Rekhachithram, but he’s dedicating the film to him anyway.

Rekhachithram is set to hit the Rs 10 Cr mark at the box office

The film centers on the search for a woman who disappeared 40 years ago while she was on the set of Mammootty's Kaathodu Kaathoram. It features a strong cast, including Jagadeesh, Sreekanth Murali, Manoj K Jayan, Zarin Shihab, and Unni Lal in key roles. Rekhachithram also boasts several special guest appearances.
