Ayan Mukerji's romantic comedy, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, featuring Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone, made its return to cinemas on Friday, providing a delightful boost of New Year's joy for viewers. According to Sacnilk, the film generated ₹1.20 crore on its first day of release.

Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani re-releases

Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani achieved remarkable success by selling 65,000 tickets and generating an additional ₹1.20 crore from its reopening day collection, bringing its total gross to ₹188.57 crore in India and ₹318 crore globally. This accomplishment has positioned it as the second-highest opening for a re-released film, following Rahi Anil Bharve's 2018 folk horror film Tumbbad, which set a record last year with ₹1.50 crore on its re-release opening day.

In terms of opening figures, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani has outperformed other films that were re-released last year. It significantly surpasses Sajid Ali's 2018 romantic drama Laila Majnu (₹30 lahks), Rakesh Roshan's 1995 reincarnation film Karan Arjun (₹25 lahks), Yash Chopra's 2004 cross-border romance Veer-Zaara (₹20 lahks), and Nikkhil Advani's 2003 romantic comedy Kal Ho Naa Ho (₹12 lahks).

Karan Johar, the producer of Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani under his Dharma Productions banner, shared a video on his Instagram Story showcasing the enthusiastic audience dancing to the popular song Badtameez Dil. He captioned the video, “Converting cinemas into rock concerts! YJHD is back in theatres!”

The cult romantic comedy features an ensemble cast that includes Kalki Koechlin, Aditya Roy Kapur, the late Farooq Shaikh, Tanvi Azmi, Kunaal Roy Kapur, and Rana Daggubati. With a musical score by Pritam, the film presents a delightful blend of friendship, love, travel, music, and adventure. Notably, it was the first film featuring Ranbir and Deepika together following their breakup. They later reunited for Imtiaz Ali's 2015 romantic drama, Tamasha. Additionally, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani represents the second collaboration between Ranbir and Ayan Mukerji, following Wake Up Sid (2009) and preceding Brahmastra: Part One - Shiva (2022).
