13 days ago | 5 Views
Dynamic actor Prajwal Devaraj made his debut in the horror genre with the film Rakshasa, collaborating with director Lohith H, known for Mummy Save Me and Devaki. Released in theaters just a month ago, the film received a mixed reception, with critics and audiences acknowledging Prajwal's strong performance. However, they also noted narrative inconsistencies that detracted from the overall viewing experience and failed to create an authentic horror atmosphere. It is not surprising that Prajwal is focused on enhancing his acting skills, as he recently earned a state film award for best actor for his role in Gentleman, directed by Jadesha K Hampi.

Rakhasa on OTT: Prajwal's film is headed to Sun NXT
The film is scheduled for its OTT debut, with Sun Network set to present Rakshasa to viewers on April 11, 2025, via Sun NXT. The cast includes Sonal Monteiro, KS Sridhar, Vihan Bastin, Arna Rathod, and others. In Rakshasa, Prajwal portrays a suspended police officer who is summoned by a superior to assist in capturing a notorious gang, a mission he accomplishes seamlessly. However, upon returning to the station, he accidentally releases a demon that had been confined in a chest for many years, leading to chaos and endangering the safety of his family.
Rakshasa is one of the two films that Prajwal chose to collaborate on with director Lohith. The topic of Rakshasa was first introduced by the filmmaker while they were on the set of Mafia, which sparked Prajwal's enthusiasm. He has been seeking to make a significant change in the types of films he undertakes, exploring different genres, roles, and storytelling techniques. Additionally, one of his forthcoming projects is Karavalli, directed by Gurudutt Ganiga, and the teaser for this film has generated considerable anticipation.
Rakshasa marked Prajwal's second film release of the year. Prior to this, he appeared in Gana, the Kannada adaptation of the 2021 Telugu movie Play Back. The film featured Prajwal and Vedhika in leading roles, telling the story of two individuals, separated by decades, who reconnect and alter their destinies.
