Prajwal Devaraj, known as the Dynamic Prince of Kannada cinema, has seen his second film of the year, Rakshasa, make its debut on OTT platforms. Directed by Lohith H, recognized for Mummy Save Me, the film was released in theaters on March 7 and received a mixed reception. While audiences praised Prajwal's acting, the horror aspects did not resonate as well. Just over a month following its theatrical release, Rakshasa is now accessible on Sun NXT, which features several of Prajwal's films, including Gentleman, for which he received the Best Actor award at the Karnataka State Film Awards. Additionally, Rakshasa is also available on OTTplay Premium.

Rakshasa is Prajwal Devaraj's first horror film and has a time loop narrative

Rakshasa marked Prajwal's inaugural venture into the horror genre, a strategic move in his ongoing effort to diversify his script choices and step away from conventional commercial films. His recent projects, including Tatsama Tadbhava, Rakshasa, and the forthcoming Karavalli, illustrate this evolution in his body of work. The actor chose to partner with Lohith after establishing a positive working rapport during the filming of Mafia, which has yet to be released.

In Rakshasa, Prajwal portrays Satya, a suspended police officer summoned by his superior to assist in the investigation of a criminal gang. He successfully apprehends the gang members and brings them to the police station for detention. However, just as the operation appears to be a resounding success, a Brahmarakshasa (demon) that had been confined in a chest unexpectedly emerges from the evidence room. This incident triggers a time loop, forcing Satya to confront not only the demon but also his own personal struggles, all while striving to protect his family.

According to Prajwal, director Lohith has attempted to create a cinematic universe with Rakshasa, with a doll from his earlier Mummy Save Me pertinent to the narrative here, while his character as a cop connects to another film.
