The makers of Coolie are on an update spree, with each cast member of the Rajinikanth-starrer Tamil film being unveiled with each passing day. After introducing actors Nagarjuna and Soubin Shahir as Simon and Daya, the team on Friday unveiled that actor Shruti Haasan will be playing a role in the film.

Shruti Haasan joins Coolie

It is a known fact that actors Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan, the two pillars of Tami cinema, share a good camaraderie and go back long. Now, Kamal Haasan’s daughter and actor Shruti Haasan, will be sharing screen space with Rajinikanth in the latter’s upcoming film Coolie. The announcement was made on Friday on social media.

Shruti Haasan will be playing the role of Preethi, as she is seen holding a shovel and sporting a disheveled hair and a bindi. It is to be noted that Coolie will mark the first time Shruti Haasan will be working with Rajinikanth.

Coolie is written and directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj. The filmmaker has earlier worked and shared screen space with Shruti in the latter’s song Inimel, which also marked the filmmaker’s acting debut. Besides Shruti Haasan and Rajinikanth, the film also stars Nagarjuna and Soubin Shahir. The film mark’s Tamil debut for the latter who was seen in this year’s hit film Manjummel Boys.

Coolie is Rajinikanth’s 171th outing as lead actor, and will mark the first time he is working with Lokesh Kanagaraj. The technical crew consists of Anirudh Ravichander scoring the music for the film and Girish Gangadharan cranking the camera. National Award winning stunt coordinators Anbariv are also associated to the project.

Coolie is backed by Sun Pictures banner. A release date for the film is yet to be announced. It is confirmed that Coolie will be a standalone project, and not associated with the Lokesh Cinematic Universe, which already consists of Kaithi, Vikram and Leo.
