Rajahuli director Guru Deshpande’s veiled remarks targeted at Rocking Star Yash?

Kannada filmmaker Guru Deshpande’s veiled remarks about a Kannada actor with pan-India star status, has got fans debating the validity of his argument. Speaking to Kannada Pichhar, Guru Deshpande said, without naming the star, that giving back to the industry that helped the latter grow, had to be about more than just making quality films for himself.
What Guru Deshpande said Yash needs to do
In what is widely being seen as a statement about Rocking Star Yash, Guru Deshpande was quoted as talking about a current pan-Indian star, whose word holds value across the country. In the context of the demand for stars to do more than one film a year, Guru said that since this star was not in a position to do so and has not been seen onscreen for a couple of years, he should, instead, produce quality cinema starring other actors and use his clout with satellite and digital partners to pick up these projects.
This, reckons Guru, will be good for Kannada cinema, and be the best way for said superstar to give back to the industry that gave him the star status he enjoys today. “You are anyway making one film in, say three years. You can continue doing that, but also back a few other projects and give them a platform. Your fan base will watch these films as well. This is exactly what the late Puneeth Rajkumar sir used to do. He did his brand of cinema, but also produced films under his banner and gave them the backing they required,” says Guru.
Guru’s comments have divided netizens, with some backing the logic and others feeling that Yash ought to be left alone to do what he’s doing now. A majority, though, were in agreement, as they too feel that given Yash’s judgement in picking scripts, films produced by his Monster Mind Productions would adhere to a certain quality standard and be watched by his fan base. They also added that Yash ought to get into the business of owning movie theatres as well.
