Pushpa 2: The Rule has finally arrived on OTT platforms worldwide after an extended wait. This blockbuster, featuring Allu Arjun, is currently available for streaming on Netflix following a successful theatrical release that is still ongoing. The Hindi-dubbed version has also been released on the platform. Directed by Sukumar and produced by Mythri Movie Makers in collaboration with Sukumar Writings, Pushpa 2: The Rule is an action drama that includes performances by Rashmika Mandanna, Fahadh Faasil, Jagapathi Babu, Jagadeesh Prathap Bandari, Dhananjaya, Rao Ramesh, Sunil, Anasuya Bharadwaj, and Ajay.

Pushpa 2: The Rule - Synopsis and Continuation from the Preceding Film

This film serves as a sequel to Pushpa: The Rise (2021) and is the second instalment in the Pushpa series. The narrative follows Pushpa Raj, a coolie who has transformed into a sandalwood smuggler, as he faces significant challenges from his adversaries, particularly SP Bhanwar Singh Shekhawat of the Indian Police Service (IPS). As Pushpa consolidates his power and expands his red sandalwood empire globally, Pushpa 2: The Rule picks up from the explosive conclusion of the first film. The escalating tensions between rival factions and the government, along with Pushpa's growing ambitions, lead him into violent confrontations and political upheavals.

In the Hindi version, Shreyas Talpade portrayed the character originally played by Allu Arjun.

The film's music was composed by Devi Sri Prasad, while cinematography was managed by Mirosław Kuba Brożek, and editing was handled by Naveen Nooli. With a production budget ranging from ₹400 to ₹500 crore, it ranks among the most expensive Indian films. Spanning approximately 224 minutes, it is also one of the longest Indian films ever made.

Theatrical Release and Box Office Performance

Pushpa 2: The Rule premiered in theatres globally on December 5, 2024, across various formats including conventional, IMAX, 4DX, D-Box, and PVR ICE. The film received favourable reviews from critics. It achieved remarkable box office success, grossing nearly ₹1,830 crore (US$210 million), thereby setting multiple records and becoming the second highest-grossing film in India. Additionally, it emerged as the highest-grossing Indian film of the year, the top-grossing Telugu film, and the third-highest-grossing Indian film overall.

The combined theatrical and non-theatrical revenue of ₹1,085 crore established a new record for the highest pre-release earnings in India. The Hindi version garnered ₹72 crore on its opening day in India. Within a span of two months and three days, Pushpa 2: The Rule set records as the fastest Indian film to reach ₹400 crore and ₹500 crore in earnings, respectively.

₹1000 crore milestone and further earnings

The film achieved the remarkable milestone of joining the select group of films that have grossed ₹1000 crore within just eight days of its release. Over its initial eight days, the film accumulated a total of ₹1004 crore worldwide, with ₹813 crore generated from the domestic market and ₹191 crore from international audiences.

As of January 2, 2025, the Hindi version reported earnings of ₹769.75 crore. By the end of the fourth week (28 days), the total had risen to ₹797.70 crore. On January 13, 2025, the film's earnings in India reached ₹1408.81 crore, equivalent to $162.9 million.

A teaser for the third installment was presented during the closing credits, revealing a cliffhanger that sets the stage for the continuation of the story, along with the title of the upcoming film: Pushpa 3: The Rampage.
