Following the remarkable success of his latest directorial venture, L2: Empuraan, which has shattered all box office records in Malayalam cinema and emerged as the highest-grossing opener in Indian film history for 2025, attention now turns to Prithviraj Sukumaran's upcoming acting projects. The acclaimed actor is set to collaborate with SS Rajamouli in an upcoming film featuring Mahesh Babu; however, prior to that, he has several Malayalam and Hindi films scheduled for release.

The first of these is Vilayath Buddha, directed by Jayan Nambiar, who previously worked as an associate director on Prithviraj’s 2019 film Lucifer, as well as on Sachy’s Anarkali and Ayyappanum Koshiyum.

This anticipated film, which commenced production a few years ago, has only recently completed filming due to Prithviraj’s other obligations and the time required for him to recuperate from a ligament injury sustained during an action sequence on set.

Vilayath Buddha release date revealed

A representative from the film’s team has confirmed to OTTplay that the release date has been finalized. “Vilayath Buddha is set for a 2025 Onam release,” the source stated, suggesting a launch in early September 2025.

In this film, which features Shammi Thilakan in a significant role, Prithviraj Sukumaran portrays a sandalwood smuggler named Double Mohanan. Set in Marayoor, the narrative follows Mohanan and his mentor Bhaskaran as Mohanan attempts to fell a valuable sandalwood tree, leading to a series of conflicts between the two.

Prithviraj Sukumaran to begin shooting Nobody next

In the meantime, Prithviraj is preparing to start filming Nobody, directed by Nisam Basheer, known for Rorschach. The production, which he is also co-producing, is scheduled to begin in Kochi on April 9.

Music composer Harshavardhan Rameshwar, recognized for his work on Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Arjun Reddy, Kabir Singh, and Animal, has been enlisted to contribute to the film.
