
Prithviraj Sukumaran on Fulfilling His 20-Year Dream of Directing Mohanlal & Manju Warrier in L2 Empuraan

In the 2000s, Prithviraj Sukumaran made his entry into Malayalam cinema with the film Nandanam, generating considerable excitement as an English-speaking actor. Since that time, he has progressed significantly, making his directorial debut with the successful film Lucifer in 2019. Recently, Prithviraj reflected on his early career during an interview, expressing his desire to work with Mohanlal and Manju Warrier if he were to direct again.

During the official trailer launch of Empuraan, Prithviraj Sukumaran highlighted the profound impact that Mohanlal and Mammootty have had on Malayalam cinema. He also praised Manju Warrier, referring to her as a ‘legend’ in her own right.
Looking back on his beginnings, Prithviraj recalled an interview from approximately 20 years ago, where he was asked whom he would cast if he ever directed a film. Without hesitation, he named “Mohanlal and Manju Warrier,” despite having no plans to direct at that time.

In Lucifer, the narrative unfolds following the death of Chief Minister PK Ramdas. Manju Warrier portrays Priya, the daughter of PK Ramdas, while Mohanlal takes on the role of Stephen Nedumpally, a devoted ally of the late Chief Minister. When Priya and her brother Jathin (played by Tovino Thomas) find themselves in peril, it is Stephen who steps in to assist them.

The captivating thriller film boasts a talented ensemble cast that includes Prithviraj, Vivek Oberoi, Indrajith Sukumaran, Sai Kumar, Baiju Santhosh, Sachin Khedekar, Kalabhavan Shajohn, Saniya Iyappan, Nyla Usha, and Fazil. Lucifer is currently available for streaming on SonyLiv and OTTplay Premium.
The sequel in the Lucifer series, titled L2 Empuraan, is set to be released on March 27, 2025. In addition to the main stars from Lucifer, Empuraan will feature Abhimanyu Singh, Eriq Ebouaney, Jerome Flynn, and Suraj Venjaramoodu in its cast.
