Prithviraj Cast Nikhat Khan Hegde in L2 Empuraan Before Learning She’s Aamir Khan’s Sister

Actor-director Prithviraj Sukumaran is in Mumbai on Thursday to promote his forthcoming Malayalam film, L2 Empuraan, which features Mohanlal in the lead role. The film also includes Nikhat Khan Hegde, sister of Aamir Khan, who portrays the character Subhadra Ben. During a press interaction, Prithviraj disclosed that he selected her for the role without initially realizing her familial connection to Aamir.

Regarding the casting of Nikhat Khan Hegde, Prithviraj expressed to the media that he was thoroughly impressed by her audition tape, which led him to choose her for the role of Subhadra. It was only afterward that his casting agent informed him of her relationship to Aamir. He recounted, “I was drawn to her performance during the audition and insisted on casting her. My casting director then mentioned, by the way, that she’s Aamir sir’s sister. I was surprised and subsequently reached out to Aamir sir. He had just messaged me inquiring about his sister’s performance in the film, to which I replied, she is far more than just good.”
Additionally, the actor-director shared his aspirations for the sequel to his successful 2019 film, Lucifer, hoping it will resonate nationwide, as it is set to be released on March 27 in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, and Hindi. “We have grand ambitions down south. This time, I believe we have produced some truly exceptional work. We shall see. I may not be the most polished filmmaker in the remarkable state of Kerala, but I hope this film showcases a greater level of finesse that will resonate with audiences,” he remarked.

Nikhat is recognized for her roles in films such as Pathaan and Mission Mangal. In a recent announcement regarding her character in the film, Prithviraj stated, “Character No: 14 Presenting Nikhat Khan Hegde as Subhadra Ben in #L2E. The rise of #Empuraan continues! #L2E is set to release on 27th March 2025.”
In the introductory video, Nikhat elaborated on her character, saying, “Subhadra Ben is a noblewoman who owns a grand haveli. She embodies regality while also possessing a deep sense of humanity. She stands by and assists a group of individuals facing difficulties. Subhadra Ben is filled with love and resilience, yet she also experiences betrayal. Portraying her allowed me to delve into various emotional depths, and I feel privileged to convey a significant message through this film.”
L2 Empuraan serves as the second chapter in a proposed trilogy featuring Mohanlal in the enigmatic role of Stephen Nedumpally, also known as Khureshi Ab’raam. The film includes performances by Tovino Thomas, Indrajith Sukumaran, Manju Warrier, Abhimanyu Singh, Eriq Ebouaney, Jerome Flynn, and Suraj Venjaramoodu.
