Prashant Neel on Bagheera: Dr Suri took a bold step in how he cut the trailer

When filmmaker Dr Suri cut the trailer of Bagheera, he had said that the focus on the film’s action blocks was intentional, to tell his audiences that there will be a lot of it in it. There was no intention of misleading his audience or giving them a certain impression, only for them to realize the film does not live up to it. As of now, the Bagheera trailer tells audiences that a police officer turns vigilante to fight against evil in society. The how and why in his decision to become a masked vigilante is at the core of the tale.

He has also said that there’s more than meets the eye, which will be revealed when the film releases on October 31. Interestingly enough, director Prashant Neel, who gave Dr Suri the first plot thread to develop Bagheera, says that the latter’s trailer cut was a rather bold step. In a special promotional interview for Bagheera makers Hombale Films, Prashant said that filmmakers generally tend to put the best bits of their film in the trailer to draw audiences to theatres. “Dr Suri made a very bold move, I believe, because I have seen Bagheera – the film is a lot better than what the trailer makes it out to be. He has a lot of guts to do that,” said Prashant.

Bagheera has Roaring Star Sriimurali as Vedanth, a righteous cop, who has to step outside the framework of the law owing to certain circumstances. He is paired with Rukmini Vasanth, who is the love interest, but refrains from spilling anything further about her character. She has been candid about her limited screen time, but Dr Suri says that her role is nevertheless impactful and is a major catalyst for a plot development.

Sudharani plays Sriimurali’s mother, while Garuda Ram is the main antagonist. Prakash Raj is a senior police officer, while Achyuth Kumar and Rangayana Raghu are also cops in the film. Bagheera has music by Ajaneesh Loknath, his first for a full-fledged commercial film.
