Laughing Buddha, a Rishab Shetty Films production that has Pramod Shetty as protagonist, is headed to theatres. Directed by Bharath M Raj, who earlier made Hero with Rishab Shetty in the lead, Laughing Buddha is a film about the personal life of a police officer played by Pramod. The film pairs Pramod with Gantumoote fame Teju Belawadi, and has Diganth and Sunder Raj also on the cast. Laughing Buddha will be in theatres on August 23.

All about Laughing Buddha

Pramod, who is a regular fixture in Rishab Shetty films, and is often seen as a character with grey shades or in a supporting role, makes the transition to leading man in Laughing Buddha. The film, according to the makers, revolves around a happy-go-lucky police constable, played by Pramod, and the events that play out after he asks for a day off from work. The policeman’s hopes of a day of quality time with his family is quashed when his request is rejected. Set in a fictional town in the Malnad region, the film was shot in Bhadravati, where an old building was transformed into the police station that Bharath had envisioned.

Launched before the pandemic, Laughing Buddha was delayed initially when the team had trouble matching artiste dates, and was eventually brought back on track in late 2022. Meanwhile, Kantara star Rishab, has been quoted as saying that what got him to back the film is that unlike other cop flicks that revolve around the machismo of the protagonist and follows professional aspects of the profession, Laughing Buddha was an attempt to look at a cop as a common man with a family and explore his personal life.

Laughing Buddha brings Malayalam film composer Vishnu Vijay to Kannada cinema. Vishnu’s most recent and popular work includes the hit film Premalu. The film has cinematography by Chandrashekaran.
