28 days ago | 5 Views
Prajwal Devaraj's first venture into the horror genre, titled Rakshasa and directed by Lohith H, was scheduled to be among the 11-12 Kannada films debuting in theatres this week. However, just one day before its planned release, the team has revealed that the film's premiere has been delayed. The postponement has been attributed to technical challenges. Rakshasa is now set to be released in theatres on March 7.

What is Prajwal Devaraj's Rakshasa about?
Rakshasa is characterized as a horror narrative centred around a time loop, featuring Prajwal in the role of a police officer and father who is determined to rescue his young daughter from a malevolent entity. He must navigate the constraints of time to uncover the sinister mystery that endangers his family. Lohith notes that the incorporation of a time-loop concept within a horror film is a fresh approach to Kannada cinema.
Prajwal is supported by a cast that includes Sonal Monteiro, Arna Rathod, KS Sridhar, and Shobraj, among others. The official synopsis reveals that the plot of Rakshasa takes place in a police station, where a captured Brahmarakshasa is confined within an evidence locker. The story's central conflict arises when this entity is accidentally released.
Rakshasa observes Prajwal venturing into a genre that challenges his usual preferences—commercial cinema. In this endeavour, he collaborates with Lohith, a filmmaker known for his successful horror titles such as Mummy Save Me and Devaki, which have established high expectations for his projects. Rakshasa marks one of the two recent films the duo has worked on together.
Additionally, Lohith has directed Prajwal in a film titled Mafia, although this particular project is not based on Lohith's script. The release of this film in theatres is still pending, while Prajwal's most recent appearance was in the unremarkable Gana, a Kannada adaptation of the Telugu film Play Back.

Rakshasa was originally titled A Tale of Devil; however, the team ultimately decided on the name Rakshasa, as the forthcoming project of Challenging Star Darshan is named Devil. Ajaneesh Loknath has been appointed as the music director, and Jebin C Jackob has taken on the role of cinematographer.
