Prabhu Solomon's next, Mambo, is first Asian film to shoot with a real lion

Director Prabhu Solomon on Wednesday announced the title of his upcoming Tamil film. Titled Mambo, the film will be headlined by Vijay Sri Harri, son of Vanitha Vijayakumar and Akash, and grandson of veteran actor Vijayakumar.

Prabhu Solomon is the man behind some iconic films like Mynaa and Kumki, which have explored the relationship between humans and nature. In line with this, the filmmaker announced on Thursday his next project, which has been titled Mambo. The makers announced that Vijay Sri Harri, Vijayakumar's grandson, Vanitha Vijayakumar and Akash's son will be leading the project’s cast.

The makers of the upcoming film also announced that it is the first Asian film to have been shot with a real lion. Apart from Vijay, the film will also stars actors Yogi Babu, Tejaswi and others. As per reports, the film will revolve around a friendship between a boy and a lion, further piquing the curiosity of the audience.

The film is backed by the Roja Combines banner, which has earlier bankrolled films like Perarasu, Porkkaalam, and Paattali. The technical crew consists of D Imman scoring the music and LVK Doss as the editor. Prabhu Solomon's son, Samuel Sanjay, will be making his debut as cinematographer in the film. A release date for Mambo has yet to be announced by the makers.

Prabhu Solomon’s work

Prabhu Solomon is a filmmaker whose works have been close to nature and local communities. He made his directorial debut with the 1999 film Kannodu Kanbathellam. After making films like Lee, King, and Laadam, his 2010 film Mynaa, starring Vidharth and Amala Paul, gave the director much acclaim and awards. Subsequently, the director made Kumki, a film on elephants, starring actors Vikram Prabhu and Lakshmi Menon

Prabhu Solomon last made Sembi featuring Ashwin Kumar and Kovai Sarala in the lead roles. The film is available for streaming on Disney+ Hotstar.
