Ponman on OTT: When to watch Basil Joseph’s film on JioHotstar

Basil Joseph's film 'Ponman' premiered in theaters on January 30, 2025. Following a period of approximately one and a half months, the Malayalam movie is scheduled to debut on JioHotstar on March 14, 2025. The streaming service announced this news via their Instagram account. However, it remains unclear whether the film will be offered in additional languages.

Ponman plot and cast

Directed by Jothish Shankar, Ponman is adapted from GR Indugopan's Naalanchu Cheruppakar. Indugopan has co-written the screenplay alongside Justin Mathew.

Situated in Kollam, Ponman tells the story of gold dealer PP Ajesh, who provides gold jewellery for the wedding of Bruno's sister, Steffi. However, when the commitment to return the gold is broken, Ajesh must confront Steffi's husband to recover the jewellery.

Basil Joseph portrays Ajesh, as a character determined to reclaim what is rightfully his. Sajin Gopu, known for his role in Aavesham, plays Mariyano, Steffi's husband, while Lijomol Jose takes on the role of Steffi. Anand Manmadhan and Deepak Parambol also feature in significant roles. 

The cinematography is handled by Sanu John Varghese, with the musical score composed by Justin Varghese. Ponman is particularly recognized for its captivating performances and engaging storyline.

Despite receiving predominantly positive reviews, Ponman did not garner the level of appreciation it warranted from viewers. With its upcoming premiere on OTT platforms, Basil Joseph’s film is anticipated to connect with a broader audience and, hopefully, gain the recognition it deserves.

Ponman marks Basil's second theatrical release this year, following his first film, Pravinkoodu Shappu.
