On Monday, the creators of Vijay's final film, Jana Nayagan, revealed that its theatrical release has been rescheduled to coincide with Pongal 2026, rather than the previously planned date in October of this year. Following this announcement, the producer of Sivakarthikeyan's film Parasakthi suggested that it too might be released during Pongal. Here’s how the audience responded.

Jana Nayagan and Parasakthi's Pongal Showdown  

KVN Productions, the team behind Jana Nayagan, confirmed on Monday evening that the film featuring Vijay will hit theatres on January 9, 2026, for Pongal. Shortly thereafter, Aakash Baskaran from Dawn Pictures posted on X (formerly Twitter), “This Pongal (crackers, fire, drums emojis) @DawnPicturesOff.” As he is producing Parasakthi, fans interpreted this as an indication that both films will be competing at the box office.

A fan expressed their thoughts on the post, stating, “As a fan of Sivakarthikeyan, I hope Jana Nayagan is released during Pongal. If the Parasakthi team plans to release on the same date, I urge them to consider an alternative.” Another fan added, “I have been a fan of actor Sivakarthikeyan since January 2013. I do not support the clash between the Parasakthi movie and the senior Kollywood actor Vijay's Jana Nayagan, as the competition between the two films during Pongal 2026 could significantly lower box office earnings.”

Conversely, some fans suggested that both Jana Nayagan and Parasakthi could be released during Pongal, albeit on different dates. One fan remarked on X, “#Parasakthi could easily debut on January 14, five days after JN, similar to how Darbar and Pattas were released without interfering with each other.” Another fan commented, “Regardless of the outcome, @Siva_Kartikeyan has once again proven his worth. It’s not about #JanaNayagan versus #Parasakthi; we can celebrate both films during the 10-day holiday.”

The producers of Parasakthi have not yet revealed a release date for the film.
