James Gunn has been busy shaping a new era for the DC Universe, now overseeing it with Peter Safran. Together, they are working on a calendar that will define their leadership, with Superman: Legacy being the first film under their guidance. As they continue to plan the film slate, there's also progress on a lineup of series for HBO Max. 

One show that has grabbed significant attention is Peacemaker Season 2, led by wrestler-turned-actor John Cena. The first season was a massive hit, breaking records and leaving fans eager for more. However, due to the chaos of reshuffling the DC Universe, the studio didn't immediately revisit the IP. Now, they are finally moving forward with it. 

James Gunn Confirms Peacemaker Season 2 Release Year

For those unaware, James Gunn has already confirmed that he will start working on Peacemaker Season 2 after wrapping up Superman: Legacy. True to his word, Gunn has been on set for the second season and even shared a sneak peek of John Cena’s updated helmet for the show. However, one burning question remains: When will Peacemaker Season 2 be released? There’s good news—Gunn has finally confirmed the release year.

Despite juggling multiple responsibilities as DCU’s co-head, Gunn remains active on social media, frequently debunking rumors, providing updates, and clarifying things for fans. Recently, when a fan asked him, "In what year will we finally receive Season 2 of Peacemaker?" Gunn responded directly, saying, "2025 after Superman."

This means Peacemaker Season 2 will arrive sometime after July 2025, as Superman: Legacy is set to hit theaters on July 11, 2025. So, fans now have a clearer idea of when to expect the highly anticipated second season.

John Cena on Peacemaker Season 2 Release Window

John Cena recently walked the red carpet for the premiere of his latest film, Jackpot!. Speaking to The Direct, Cena was asked when fans could expect Peacemaker Season 2 and if he had any updates. The WWE star offered a brief but promising response, saying, "I'm hopeful in saying next year... And that's about the only Peacemaker question I can answer."

Peacemaker Season 2 Plot

During a recent fan Q&A, Gunn was asked if Peacemaker Season 2 would be completely different from Season 1. Gunn replied, "No. A couple [of] facts are very minorly different, that's all." He confirmed that the second season will "essentially pick up where Season 1 left off, with a couple of minor differences." 

Additionally, during an appearance on Michael Rosenbaum’s podcast, Gunn stated that Peacemaker Season 2 will be set right after the events of Superman: Legacy. He said, "Peacemaker’s coming back right after I do Superman. That’s my next thing. I’ll go straight into Peacemaker from Superman."
