The world of the DCU is about to be unleashed on your home screens starting December 2024, and there’s no stopping the James Gunn-Peter Safran storm now. Almost two years after taking the helm at Warner Bros' DCU, the new bosses are finally set to share their vision after carefully developing it for a long time. On HBO Max, Creature Commandos will kick off the DCU next month, while Peacemaker Season 2 will be the first live-action show from the new DCU lineup. This season brings John Cena back for a second round, but with a fresh vibe as it will be part of the DCU canon. Fans eager for a first look have now been rewarded as James Gunn and HBO have released the teaser—and it’s clear audiences aren’t ready for what’s coming. 

First Footage from Peacemaker Season 2

The teaser is part of a showreel Max shared, previewing upcoming releases on the platform over the next year, starting this December. The studio confirmed that Peacemaker Season 2 will premiere in 2025, with John Cena returning alongside his team of underdogs, who are back to unleash havoc on their opponents. We see Christopher Smith, played by Cena, don his helmet once more, joined by Vigilante (Freddie Stroma), Leota Adebayo (Danielle Brooks), Emilia Harcourt (Jennifer Holland), and John Economos (Steve Agee). The teaser also features the first live-action appearance of Rick Flag Sr. (Frank Grillo), who will debut in Creature Commandos next month.

James Gunn Confirms Peacemaker Season 2 Release Year

In case you missed it, James Gunn has already confirmed he would start work on Peacemaker Season 2 right after wrapping David Corenswet's Superman, and he has done just that. Gunn has been on the set of the second season and even shared a glimpse of Cena’s updated helmet for the show. Fans have been curious about the release date, and now Gunn has confirmed the release year.

Even as he juggles multiple responsibilities as head of the DCU, Gunn remains very active on social media, frequently debunking rumors, giving updates, and providing clarifications for fans. Recently, a fan asked him, "In what year will we finally receive season 2 of Peacemaker?" Gunn replied directly, confirming, "2025 after Superman."

Peacemaker Season 2 Plot

Recently on Threads, Gunn was asked whether Peacemaker Season 1 is significantly different from the second. Gunn responded, "No. A couple of facts are very minorly different; that's all." The Superman director also confirmed, "It essentially picks up where season 1 left off, with a couple of minor differences." Additionally, in an interview on Michael Rosenbaum’s podcast, Gunn revealed that Peacemaker Season 2 will be set right after the events of Superman. "Peacemaker's coming back right after I do Superman. That’s my next thing. Go straight into Peacemaker from Superman," he shared.
