All about Darshana Rajendran’s Paradise
This project, directed by Sri Lankan filmmaker Prasanna Vithanage, won numerous awards at international film festivals. Mani Ratnam screened Paradise in theatres under the Madras Talkies banner. Mahendra Perera and Shyam Fernando play supporting roles in Paradise.
The story of the movie centres on a young Indian couple who travel to crisis-ridden Sri Lanka to celebrate their fifth wedding anniversary. However, after they are inadvertently robbed while visiting, their arguments become more intense, exposing the fissures in their relationship and drawing attention to the socioeconomic state of the nation, which exacerbates social tensions.
With a deft script and powerful performances, Prasanna Vithanage skilfully depicts the social and humanitarian issues of his hometown in a film that is sure to challenge one's ideas about the value of human life. The director skilfully examines these issues through the eyes of a young couple who are vacationing in the country, using a well-written screenplay.
