In Srijit Mukherji’s Padatik, the character of Uttam Kumar is there for around 15 minutes. The actor’s resemblance with Uttam Kumar has startled the audience. Actor Gourab Roy Chowdhury, known for the serial Puber Moyna, played the role. He had to take two photos for the film. The photos came to social media and became viral.

In an interview with Anandabazar Online, Gourab laughed at the question if he is now being called Uttam Kumar by his fans. “People were so stunned that there was an initial silence. After that, comments flooded in. Everyone says that there was no way to differentiate, the makeup was so good,” he said. The actor gave the credit to makeup artist Somnath Kundu. He said that Somnath took only half an hour for the makeup. The director also was surprised to see him at the look test.

Gourab once wore a dhoti and a shirt, and another time donned the look of the film Nayak. He was mesmerized to see him in the mirror. 'I grew up watching his films sitting on my grandmother's lap. I never thought that I would one day get the chance to play him.' Due to this sentiment, Gourab did not take any remuneration. He said that Srijit fulfilled his dream. That was why Somnath did not assign Gourab's makeup to anyone else. He did it himself. Chanchal Chowdhury was his co-actor. Gourab thought of himself as Uttam Kumar and effortlessly acted with him.

Srijit’s Padatik features Chanchal Chowdhury as Mrinal Sen and Monami Ghosh as Geeta Sen. While the film failed to make a mark at the box office due to the ongoing protest against the rape and murder incident at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.
