Prashant Tamang: From Nepali Cinema to Indian Idol
The Nepali film industry is prominently represented by its star, Prashant, who hails from Darjeeling, West Bengal. His debut film, Gorkha Paltan, released in 2010, achieved significant commercial success. Following this, he starred in several other films, including Angalo Yo Maya Ko, Kina Maya Me, Nishani, Pardesi, and Ye Maya Hanima. Additionally, Prashant made a special guest appearance on the Hindi television series Amber Dhara.
In a tragic turn of events, Prashant Tamang's father, Madan Tamang, lost his life in a car accident. In the wake of this loss, Prashant chose to discontinue his education and took on the responsibilities of a policeman within the Kolkata Police. He held various positions in the department, including that of a constable and a member of the police orchestra.
Prashant's singing talent was highly regarded by both his peers and superiors. Their encouragement motivated him to audition for Indian Idol, where he successfully advanced to the subsequent round of Indian Idol 3. Remarkably, throughout the competition, he never placed lower than third.
Prashant, known for his soothing voice that brought tranquillity to his audience, ultimately secured the second position, trailing only Amit Paul. Initially, he did not enjoy widespread popularity. In the finale of the third season of Indian Idol, Prashant surpassed Amit by an impressive margin of 70 million votes. Along with the cash prize, he was awarded a Maruti Suzuki SX4.
A new chapter in music and film
Following his triumph on Indian Idol 3, Prashant Tamang launched the Nepali and Hindi album titled Dhanyavad. Furthermore, he embarked on an international tour, performing at various events. Additionally, he has lent his voice to several Nepali films.
