The OTT release date for the latest Telugu buddy comedy Om Bheem Bush has been confirmed. Starring Sree Vishnu, Priyadarshi, and Rahul Ramakrishna in the lead roles, the movie will be available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video on April 12.

Om Bheem Bush is arriving on streaming much sooner than most new Telugu movies. Currently, many new South movies make their digital debut about four weeks after their box office debut. However, this film is making its OTT debut in less than three weeks.

Om Bheem Bush was first released in cinemas on March 22. Technically, the film's digital release is happening in about two weeks. This is not the first Telugu film to advance its streaming release, much to the displeasure of the industry.

Early OTT release for Om Bheem Bush

Earlier this year, seasoned actor Daggubati Venkatesh's action drama Saindhav also debuted on streaming in about two weeks. The film opened in cinemas on January 13 this year, eyeing to cash in on the Sankranti festival. However, things didn't pan out exactly as filmmakers hoped.

Saindhav was met with poor reviews and was overshadowed by other films like Telugu superstar Mahesh Babu's Guntur Kaaram and director Prasanth Varma's superhero movie HanuMan. The film's box office fate was clear for the producers based on its opening weekend performance, and soon they decided to make the film available for streaming.

Telugu cinema's growing trend

Other stakeholders in the industry fear that this trend of giving an early streaming release for movies that don't fare well at the box office might significantly change people's attitudes towards cinemas. Theatre owners feel that audiences may not mind waiting for a few more weeks to see new films from the comfort of their homes if this trend continues.

Om Bheem Bush also fared well at the box office, promoting its early release. Based on the trailer, the film seems like a horror comedy and a funny riff on Hollywood's classic Ghostbusters.

Directed by Sree Harsha Konuganti, the film also stars Preity Mukundhan, Ayesha Khan, Srikanth Iyengar, Aditya Menon, and Racha Ravi.
