At a time when film producers assert that OTT platforms show little interest in Malayalam films prior to their theatrical debuts, the creators of Kunchacko Boban’s Officer On Duty have successfully secured a deal to sell its streaming rights to Netflix. The financial details regarding the sale of the film's OTT rights have not yet been disclosed by the filmmakers or industry insiders.

Directed by debutant Jithu Ashraf and penned by Shahi Kabir, the film premiered in theaters on February 20. In addition to Kunchacko, who portrays a demoted circle inspector, the cast includes Jagadish, Vishak Nair, Priya Mani, Manoj KU, Unni Lalu, and Ramzan Muhammed in significant roles.

Officer on Duty OTT release: When, where to watch film online

Notably, the previous two police dramas produced by Martin Prakkat Films—Nayattu and Iratta—are also available for streaming on Netflix. Officer On Duty represents Kunchacko’s second partnership with this production company and scriptwriter Shahi Kabir, following their collaboration on the critically acclaimed Nayattu, which featured Joju George and Nimisha Sajayan.

Based on the platform's past release patterns, it is anticipated that Officer On Duty will be available on Netflix by March 20, 2025. The last Malayalam film released on Netflix was Rifle Club, which debuted exactly one month after its theatrical showing.

Nonetheless, there are compelling reasons for audiences to experience this captivating thriller in theaters. The film, which centers on a police investigation intertwined with the protagonist's personal struggles, unfolds at a rapid pace and is driven by powerful performances from the lead actors, particularly Kunchacko.
