Nushrratt Bharuccha Reflects on Star Kids' Advantage: 'They Can Knock on Doors I’m Unaware Of'

Nushrratt Bharuccha, known for her roles in Pyaar Ka Punchnama and Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety, has recently addressed the challenges she has faced in the film industry, despite her recent achievements. In a conversation with Shubhankar Mishra, the actress candidly shared her experiences as an outsider in Bollywood, highlighting the obstacles of entering the industry and navigating it without established connections.

Nushrratt Bharuccha on early beginnings and ongoing challenges

Bharuccha began her career by taking on a prominent role in Jai Santoshi Maa. She subsequently achieved a series of commercial successes, yet she continued to encounter difficulties in securing roles. When questioned about the seemingly more secure career trajectories of her peers, Sonakshi Sinha and Shraddha Kapoor, who debuted in Dabangg and Teen Patti, respectively, the actress readily addressed the topic of accessibility.

She expressed that, without a doubt, they hold a more advantageous position than she does. "They are familiar with the industry and its key players. Even if they aren't, their parents certainly are. As a result, they can access opportunities that are beyond my reach. They can approach individuals and venues that I might not even be aware of. If I wish to connect with a director, who would provide me with their contact information? Where would I even begin to inquire about the director's location? This is a tangible issue — and it is indeed a significant one," she remarked.

Pain of getting noticed

Despite her breakthrough role in Pyaar Ka Punchnama, the actress faced significant challenges in reaching out to filmmakers, as she shared in a personal account. A notable moment for her occurred when she contacted Kabir Khan regarding potential work, and he agreed to meet with her. Establishing connections with directors and arranging meetings can be quite difficult, particularly for those not within the industry.

Bharuccha prefers not to label them as "nepo kids," acknowledging that they encounter distinct obstacles; however, it is undeniable that they often achieve progress that those outside the industry may not. She believes that being an outsider can present even greater difficulties. Anyone who expresses interest in working with her holds great value in her eyes, as she considers them akin to family. While she would have liked to receive more affirmative responses—more yeses than nos—Bharuccha remains content with the films she has been a part of.

Chhorii 2

The follow-up to Bharuccha's successful horror film Chhorii, released in 2021, is now available for streaming on Prime Video under the title Chhorii 2. Directed by Vishal Furia, this installment stars Gashmeer Mahajani, Hardika Sharma, and Soha Ali Khan, who returns to acting. The narrative centers on Bharuccha's character, Sakshi, as she battles malevolent supernatural entities to protect her daughter Ishaani, portrayed by Badika.
