Actor Nikhil Nair, despite hailing from a prominent film family and being familiar with the glamour of the movie industry, admits to feeling a mix of nervousness and excitement as he prepares for the release of his film Vidaamuyarchi, featuring Ajith Kumar in the lead role.
“I share the same anticipation as the audience,” Nikhil Nair states, noting that he entered the film industry through auditions. Upon learning about the audition process, the aspiring actor participated, which consisted of three stages. “The first stage was general, the second was more focused on the character, and the third was entirely character-driven. After the final stage, Magizh sir invited me to join the cast for AK 62 (Vidaamuyarchi),” he explains.
Nikhil Nair Interview for Vidaamuyarchi

Nikhil emphasizes the uniqueness of his character, stating that it deviates from conventional roles. Upon further reflection, he notes that it does not conform to a predetermined archetype. “In Tamil cinema, there are specific roles that actors typically portray, such as the hero, the villain, a brother, or a friend of the hero. My character, however, stands apart from these norms. I believe Magizh sir has crafted the characters in a distinctive manner, and I am confident that AK sir also contributed to my role, as I recall him providing me with guidance during the filming of Vidaamuyarchi,” Nikhil explains.
Reiterating the singularity of his character, Nikhil shares his experience of filming in Azerbaijan, a location characterized by extreme weather and a landscape previously unseen in Tamil cinema. “It was my first visit there, which is one of the reasons I cherish my profession as an actor. It allows me to explore various places through my work. My costume consisted of merely a vest and distressed jeans, and shooting in such frigid conditions proved to be quite challenging. Delivering my lines was difficult, but in retrospect, it has become a cherished memory.”
‘I was the child on sets of Vidaamuyarchi’
Nikhil, who shares numerous scenes with Ajith Kumar, reminisces about his early encounters with the actor on the sets of Kireedam, a remake of the film originally featuring his uncle, Mohanlal. "I have had the opportunity to meet him at various social events. AK sir possesses a remarkable sense of humour, and his comedic timing is exceptional. Being the youngest on set, I often found myself playfully teased by everyone, including AK sir, Arjun sir, and Trisha mam. I was regarded as the 'child' of the set. Nevertheless, he is also incredibly supportive as a fellow artist."

Nikhil emphasizes a significant lesson from Vidaamuyarchi, stating, “Observing someone like AK sir dedicate himself so diligently, even after achieving considerable success, is what keeps him at the pinnacle of his career. Many individuals tend to become complacent once they reach a certain level. However, akin to the title Vidaamuyarchi, sir exemplifies perseverance. He possesses no fear, and the manner in which he harnesses his potential is truly remarkable.” The actor further shares that he and Ajith Kumar share a mutual enthusiasm for racing. “We embarked on a motorcycle journey from Chennai to Coorg, and I also find joy in cooking, which serves as my outlet for stress,” he notes.
In concluding his remarks, Nikhil expresses his preference for focusing on Tamil cinema. “Although I have roots in Malayalam cinema, I have grown up here and am eager to continue my work in this industry. Tamil cinema offers a commercial aspect that is often absent in Malayalam cinema, which tends to be overly focused on slice-of-life narratives that reflect reality too closely, leaving little room for escapism. Aside from a few exceptions like Lucifer and Empuraan, mass hero films are not widely accepted there. In contrast, films featuring stars like Vijay sir, Ajith sir, and Rajini sir are celebrated as events, a phenomenon I truly miss in Malayalam cinema.”
Vidaamuyarchi is scheduled for theatrical release on February 6.
