Agnyathavasi, the movie that Sapta Sagaradaache Ello creator Hemanth M Rao chose to support in order to allow Gultoo -creator Janardhan Chikkanna his upcoming directorial venture, premiered in theaters on April 11, following over a year of delays in making it available. By that time, Janardhan had two films to his credit, having directed the comedy Powder for KRG Studios and TVF, which did not succeed. Hemanth, who has produced the film under his company Dakshayini Talkies, opted to postpone its release for as long as he could, as he endured the adverse market conditions, both for theatrical and post-theatrical revenue.

Hemanth's determination bore fruit, and the movie secured a satellite and digital partner when it was released, which is uncommon in Kannada cinema these days. Zee Network acquired the rights, and we've recently learned that the platform has also announced a release date. Lately, whenever Zee has obtained both satellite and digital rights, it has opted for simultaneous releases on both platforms to enhance viewership, as seen with Kiccha Sudeep's Max and Venkatesh's Sankrantiki Vastunam.

It will be interesting to see if Zee opts for the same approach with Agnyathavasi and whether the film will feature dubbed audio in addition to the Kannada original version. Currently, the streaming premiere on Zee5 Kannada is scheduled for May 16, 2025. Agnyathavasi features Rangayana Raghu (Cyanide), Ravishankar Gowda, Sharath Lohithashwa, Siddu Moolimani, Pavana Gowda, among others, and the music is composed by Charanraj.

The movie takes place in a quiet Malnad village during the 90s, where the passing of a local landlord raises the police inspector's suspicions of potential foul play. Lacking any physical proof to support this, what was it that seemed suspicious to him, and how does he attempt to validate his hypothesis? This lies at the heart of Agnyathavasi, which becomes increasingly intriguing, considering that the village has not experienced a significant crime in years, resulting in the officers lacking the expertise to solve a case of this nature.
