Upon the release of Sandeep Reddy Vanga's film Animal in theatres just over a year ago, it was hailed as the most violent film in India. The extensive display of gore, blood, and excessive violence left many Indian audiences in shock. Following this, the film Kill, featuring Lakshya, attempted to surpass Animal, prompting fans of both movies to speculate whether anything could exceed the level of brutality presented. Recently, a new Malayalam film has emerged, claiming the title of India's most violent film, with reports indicating that some viewers have experienced nausea in theatres due to its graphic content.

India's most brutal cinematic production

Marco, the latest Malayalam action thriller featuring Unni Mukundan, has garnered attention for its extreme levels of violence. Directed by Haneef Adeni, this revenge narrative also includes performances by Siddique, Jagadish, Abhimanyu S Thilakan, and Kabir Duhan Singh. Following the initial screenings, numerous audience members noted that the film contained significantly more bloodshed and brutality than even notorious films such as Animal, Kill, or the KGF series. According to a report by Manorama, one viewer recounted, “The woman seated beside me was so overwhelmed by the violent scenes that she vomited on my shirt.”

The film received notable criticism for its depiction of graphic violence directed towards children, a portrayal that is rarely seen explicitly in Indian cinema. It has drawn comparisons to international action films such as John Wick and Sin City in terms of its overall tone.

Revenue generated by the box office for Marco

Marco premiered in theatres on December 20 and has quickly become a significant success at the box office. In its first six days, it has generated a net revenue of ₹25 crore in India and is approaching ₹50 crore globally. Notably, during this period, Marco has amassed ₹25.25 crore gross in Kerala alone, surpassing the earnings of Allu Arjun's Pushpa 2: The Rule, which took over three weeks to achieve similar figures in the state. This accomplishment is particularly remarkable considering the film was produced on a budget of only ₹30 crore. Marco has already set a record as the highest-grossing adult-rated Malayalam film to date and is currently in a competitive race against superstar Mohanlal's Barroz at the box office.
