Ahead of Shraddha Kapoor’s horror-comedy Stree 2’s release on August 15, the movie has attracted unwanted attention for its poster. Some eagle-eyed social media users have pointed out stark similarities between the cover poster of Stree 2 and Netflix’s Stranger Things. From the same colour themes to image placement, here’s how fans are slamming Stree 2 for blatantly copying the epic fantasy series.

Stree 2 and Stranger Things cover poster controversy

Bollywood often comes under the radar for copying plots and creatives from Hollywood and South cinema. Recently, Amar Kaushik's horror comedy Stree 2 faced similar allegations, as fans couldn’t help but notice the uncanny resemblance of the poster to Netflix’s fantasy franchise Stranger Things. Soon, a wave of reactions started as fans compared the Stree 2 poster with Stranger Things. While some accused the makers of shamelessly copying the colour schemes and other aspects, there were a few who came out in its defence.

The striking similarities between the Stree 2 and Stranger Things 2 posters include the use of an orange and blue backdrop, along with the flowing faces of the ensemble cast. Even the movie title is spelled in red and black, just like the Stranger Things poster. Rajkummar Rao replaces Millie Bobby Brown at the top, while the supporting cast, including Abhishek Banerjee, Aparshakti Khurana, and Pankaj Tripathi appear below him. Shraddha Kapoor is at the centre of the bottom row, similar to Will from Stranger Things.

Fans react to ‘copied’ poster

Although the posters are not entirely the same, there are multiple similarities between the two, and fans seem to be debating about whether it is the copy or an inspiration. While some called it a shameful act for 'not even hesitating' a bit, others sided with the makers, calling it a smart marketing strategy. Some even called out the Stranger Things poster as unoriginal by pointing out that even it was copied from comic poster images.

One fan wrote, “This is pretty much the cover of a thousand “urban fantasy” “novels” on Amazon now”. Another wrote, “This isn’t the first they copied a cover for a popular show/movie.”

Meanwhile, others noted that there were some differences but majorly the two appeared similar. “There a couple differences but yeah you can see that there is a striking similarity,” a reddit user shared.
