Netflix's The Sandman Ends After Season 2: Allegations Against Gaiman Loom Large
2 months ago | 5 Views
Allan Heinberg, the showrunner, has announced that the hit series The Sandman will wrap up with its second season. The show, inspired by Neil Gaiman's well-known DC comic series, debuted in August 2022 and got a renewal in November that same year. Interestingly, Netflix initially called it a "continuation" instead of a new season, as reported by Variety.
The last season of The Sandman has been officially announced
Allan mentioned in the publication that the choice to wrap up the series was made pretty early on. He stated, "The Sandman series has always centered around Dream's journey, and when we reviewed the remaining Dream content from the comics in 2022, it became clear that we only had enough for one more season." He also expressed gratitude to Netflix for giving them the chance to finish the adaptation while staying true to the original comics.
Here's the scoop on season 2 of The Sandman
The upcoming second season, set to drop in 2025, will adapt the Season of Mists storyline from the comics. In this plot, Lucifer, portrayed by Gwendoline Christie, decides to step down from his throne in Hell and hands over the key to Morpheus, played by Tom Sturridge. This sparks a power struggle among various formidable beings eager to seize control.
Most of the cast from Season 1 will be back, including Patton Oswalt, Vivienne Acheampong, Jenna Coleman, and Christie. Joining the crew are Esme Creed-Miles as Delirium, Adrian Lester as Destiny, and Barry Sloane as The Prodigal.
The claims made about Neil Gaiman
The report hints that the choice to wrap up The Sandman was made prior to the recent claims against Neil coming to light. Sources say that by the middle of 2023, the production team had already decided that Season 2 would be the last one.
The accusations against Neil first popped up last summer during a Tortoise Media podcast. A detailed article in New York Magazine in January featured allegations from eight women regarding assault, abuse, and coercion, but Neil countered with a blog post denying any misconduct.
