It is challenging to witness the endings of cherished Korean dramas in 2025. Are you curious about the status of Season 2? Fans may be taken aback to learn that some of their favorite Korean series, such as When Life Gives You Tangerine (featuring IU and Park Bo Gum), will not be available on Netflix in 2025.

Korean dramas like Lovely Runner and Queen of Tears have made a notable impact on Netflix's viewership. However, the streaming giant has remained silent regarding the possibility of a second season, leaving fans in suspense about its future. Several popular Korean dramas have already been classified as "limited series," which, to our knowledge, effectively eliminates any chance of renewal.

In 2025, Netflix will officially cease streaming the following Korean dramas.

When Life Gives You Tangerine

When Life Gives You Tangerine, a distinctive slice-of-life song, has been achieving remarkable success. It reached the top position in three countries and made it into the top ten in 24 others, accumulating 3.6 million views this week. Presently, it holds a strong position at No. 4 on Netflix's global non-English chart. However, Netflix appears uninterested in capitalizing on the speculation surrounding its increasing popularity. Even before the series has finished airing, the streaming platform has already labeled it as a "limited series."

The narrative centers around Oh Ae Sun, a spirited young woman, and her devoted childhood sweetheart, Yang Gwan Sik. Recently married, they face various challenges in life, including an abundant supply of tangerines. Netflix characterizes their island story as a lifelong journey filled with both obstacles and victories, showcasing the enduring strength of love.

When the Stars Gossip

When the Stars Gossip was promoted as one of Netflix's significant investments in the K-drama category for 2025, featuring the talented Gong Hyo Jin and the charismatic Lee Min Ho, expectations were high. Regrettably, the outcome was far from favorable. Both viewership and critical feedback fell short of expectations, which was unexpected considering Lee Min Ho's ability to attract a substantial international fanbase.

In contrast, Taking Love to Space attempted to innovate within its genre by merging elements of science fiction with romance. Collaborating with physicists and astronauts, writer Seo Sook Hyang and director Park Shin Woo aimed to accurately depict cosmic themes. However, the series was marred by numerous confusing moments, awkward storytelling, and inconsistent pacing, ultimately hindering its success. Consequently, Netflix swiftly retracted the "limited series" label from this production.

The Potato Lab

With 1.9 million views and top ten placements in 19 countries, The Potato Lab currently ranks ninth on Netflix's global non-English Top 10 list. This romantic comedy stars Lee Sun Bin and Kang Tae Oh, who have recently completed their military service, and adheres to the classic elements of Korean romantic comedies: a quaint town backdrop, workplace challenges, and numerous heartwarming interactions between former rivals. Regrettably, a second season of the series will not be produced.

The story centers on a devoted potato researcher whose lab faces closure due to a corporate takeover. She is determined to save it, and when a daring filmmaker steps in, the dynamics become increasingly complex and passionate. As portrayed by Netflix, the life of this enthusiastic researcher takes a dramatic turn with the arrival of a strict director in her potato lab.

When the Phone Rings

Yoo Yeon Seok and Chae Soo Bin's drama "When the Phone Rings," set to air in 2024-25, has generated considerable anticipation among audiences. In a departure from conventional Korean dramas, the choice to lift the ban on bold scenes has proven to be beneficial. Under the direction of Park Sang Woo, the couple's marriage faces challenges, leading them into the complex political environment of South Korea. The drama's provocative portrayal of conflict has contributed significantly to its popularity. Despite receiving predominantly positive reviews, Netflix has not expressed any interest in renewing the series, and there are currently no plans for a second season.

"When the Phone Rings" centers on the lives of Sa Aeon and Hee Joo, who have been married for three years in secrecy. Sa Aeon, despite struggling with selective mutism, works as a sign language interpreter, while Hee Joo serves as the spokesperson for the president. Their lives take a dramatic turn following a mysterious phone call. When the kidnapper attempts to intimidate Sa Aeon, Hee Joo provocatively tells him to go ahead and kill her, all the while taking careful notes unbeknownst to him.

Love Next Door

Even though it was released in 2024, Love Next Door continued to be a widely discussed topic well into 2025. The series, featuring Jung Hae In and Jung So Min, encapsulated the essence of a classic without resorting to clichés. It tells the story of two immensely successful individuals, separated by vast distances, who captured the audience's attention. After leaving her fiancé behind, she returns to Korea, while he has already lost hope unless fate intervenes to reunite them. The narrative is straightforward yet impactful. Its popularity earned it a spot on Netflix's list of top non-English series, marking it as a significant success. However, Netflix quickly classified it as a limited series, indicating that the excitement surrounding it was not without limits, as there will be no second season.
