Netflix just dropped the trailer for Bet, a new English-language series based on the super popular Japanese manga Kakegurui – Compulsive Gambler, created by Homura Kawamoto and Tôru Naomura. It's set to hit screens on May 15, 2025, and it looks like it's going to mix psychological thrills with high school drama in a world where everything's a gamble and nothing's off-limits. Bet follows the students at a fancy international boarding school where grades take a backseat to one thing: gambling. In this secret underground scene, power, popularity, and survival are all about risky bets and ruthless games. But when Yumeko (played by Miku Martineau), a mysterious new transfer student with a killer gambling instinct and a hidden agenda, shows up, she shakes things up and challenges the school's cutthroat status quo. Her arrival ruffles the feathers of the all-powerful Student Council and kicks off a high-stakes showdown that goes way beyond just chips and cards.

The show features a varied cast including Ayo Solanke, Eve Edwards, Clara Alexandrova, Hunter Cardinal, Anwen O'Driscoll, Aviva Mongillo, Laura Afelskie, Dorian Giordano, Emma Elle Paterson, and Ryan Sutherland. With themes of manipulation, power, and revenge, Bet aims to capture the intense tension and surreal vibe that made the original manga a cult favorite. Created and run by Simon Barry, the mind behind Warrior Nun, the show is directed by Barry along with Jacquie Gould, Craig Wallace, and Joyce Wong, with a writing team led by Tabia Lau. While fans of Kakegurui will spot some familiar storylines and character interactions, Bet gives the source material a fresh Western spin and a sleek, suspenseful look. With stylish visuals, psychological games, and unexpected twists at every corner, Netflix's Bet might just become the next binge-worthy hit for both manga fans and drama lovers.
