Netflix appears to be experiencing significant success recently, acquiring the rights to several prominent Indian films, particularly from the southern region. The streaming service commenced 2025 with a notable release, as "Pushpa 2: The Rule" premiered on its platform on January 30, 2025. Following this, in February, Nandamuri Balakrishna's "Daaku Maharaaj" also made its debut. Furthermore, Netflix has obtained the OTT rights for Kunchacko Boban's Malayalam film "Officer On Duty" and Pradeep Ranganathan's Tamil film "Dragon." Both of these films were released in theaters in February 2025 and have garnered favorable reviews.

Officer On Duty on Netflix

Kunchacko Boban's police thriller, Officer On Duty, premiered in theaters on February 20, 2025, receiving predominantly favorable reviews from critics. Netflix has acquired the streaming rights for this Malayalam film, which features performances by Priyamani, Jagadish, and Vishak Nair While the platform has not yet disclosed the streaming date, it is anticipated that Officer On Duty may be available for viewing on March 20, 2025, adhering to the common practice of a one-month interval between theatrical and OTT releases.

The Malayalam film, helmed by Jithu Ashraf, is winning over the audiences with its gripping narrative. Notably, the movie is scripted by Shahi Kabir, who had previously penned Nayattu and Joseph, both of which garnered praise. 

Dragon

Pradeep Ranganathan plays the principal character in the film Dragon. Directed by Ashwath Marimuthu, this coming-of-age narrative centers on Ragavan, who makes the unfortunate choice to forsake his education following a romantic split. The film also features Anupama Parameswaran and Kayadu Lohar, and it has been receiving favorable reviews for the performances of its leading actors.

Netflix has obtained the streaming rights for this Tamil film, which is anticipated to be available on the platform following the conclusion of its theatrical release.

Daaku Maharaaj on Netflix

The significant release on Netflix from the South in February 2025 is "Daaku Maharaaj," featuring Nandamuri Balakrishna. This Telugu film, which achieved moderate success at the box office, began streaming on the platform on February 2. In addition to Telugu, the film is accessible for streaming in Hindi, Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam.
