India really jumped on the long-format content bandwagon when Vikramaditya Motwane, Varun Grover, and Anurag Kashyap teamed up with Netflix to bring us Sacred Games. The show took off like a rocket, becoming a cultural sensation and solidifying Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s fame with his role as Gaitonde. It’s been six years since Siddiqui graced a streaming series, but that’s about to change. Recent reports say the Gangs of Wasseypur star is making a comeback to long-format storytelling with Disney+ Hotstar, where he’ll be starring in the Hindi version of a well-known American medical drama. Here’s the scoop you need.

An Indian version of House is on the way

Nawazuddin Siddiqui is back in the web series game six years after his success with Sacred Games. This time, he's set to star in the Hindi version of House, the popular American medical drama. As per Peeping Moon, this Indian adaptation is in the works for Disney+ Hotstar.

Banijay Asia is producing the series, and it will be directed by the talented Vijay Maurya, who has made a name for himself as both a screenwriter and filmmaker. The project is currently in pre-production, with filming expected to kick off around mid-2025. Reports indicate that Nawazuddin will take on the lead role, which was famously played by Hugh Laurie. An official Indian title for the show hasn't been announced yet.

David Shore created House, which ran for eight seasons from 2004 to 2012. The show centered around Dr. Gregory House, a sharp-witted yet jaded medical expert who, despite his own issues, managed a successful diagnostic team at a top hospital. The official summary stated:

"Gregory House (Hugh Laurie) is an unconventional medical genius leading a group of young diagnosticians at the fictional Princeton-Plainsboro Teaching Hospital in New Jersey. Each episode typically kicks off with a cold open outside the hospital, showcasing the events that lead to the symptoms of that week’s patient."

Vijay Maurya, who made a name for himself with films like Gully Boy, Agni, Darlings, and Roofan, is adapting the series for Indian viewers. Siddiqui has checked out the script and is really looking forward to it. On top of that, he has a bunch of exciting projects lined up, including Netflix India's Raat Akeli Hai 2 with Chitrangda Singh, plus Thama, Bole Chudiyaan, Noorani Chehra, and Bhavesh Mandalia’s Lion King.
