Vidyapati, featuring Nagabhushana in a leading role and produced by Daali Dhananjaya’s home banner, is set to hit theaters on April 10, 2025. The film is directed by the duo Esham-Haseen, known for their lockdown comedy Ikkat, which also starred Nagabhushana. In this new project, he plays the title character, who is the husband of superstar Vidya.

Esham and Haseen, the directors of Vidyapati, encouraged Nagabhushana to step out of his comfort zone

The trailer for Vidyapati was unveiled on March 19, and during the launch, Nagabhushana reflected on how his early acting dreams were mostly limited to minor supporting roles. It was the film Ikkat that really propelled him into the spotlight, a project filmed during the pandemic in a small independent house. At the Vidyapati trailer event, Nagabhushana shared, “If Esham and Haseen could create an engaging 2-hour film in a 20*30 space, just think about what they could achieve with a larger budget and more room to work. Vidyapati is that project, and I’m thankful they believed in me to take on this role.”

In Vidyapati, Nagabhushana stars alongside Malaika Vasupal, known for her role in Upadhyaksha. The story revolves around the conflict between his character and the antagonist Jaggu, portrayed by Garuda Ram. The film's central theme explores how his life shifts from a focus on wealth and luxury to becoming a genuine hero for his loved ones. Dhananjaya also makes a playful cameo as a character named Anaconda.

The actor mentions that any success he achieved in Vidyapati is thanks to the directors, who constantly challenged him and kept him from getting too comfortable. The cast includes Girish Jatti, Bindu Raxidi, Srivatsa Shyam, and Dharmanna Kadur, with filmmaker Vijayaprasad making a brief appearance. Dossmode is the primary composer, and Vasuki Vaibhav contributed to the background music as well.
