The enthralling trailer for My Melbourne, an anthology comprising four distinct stories set in the vibrant city of Melbourne, has been released. Prepare to be immersed in a narrative landscape rich with themes of human connection, resilience, and identity as you explore these engaging tales. The film presents the unique journeys of four characters, each navigating their own paths against the multicultural backdrop of Melbourne. This project showcases the collaborative talents of four renowned Indian filmmakers—Kabir Khan, Imtiaz Ali, Rima Das, and Onir—and is scheduled to premiere in Indian theaters on March 14, 2025.

Diverse narratives rooted in reality

Each of the four stories, crafted by a different filmmaker and inspired by real-life events, provides insight into one of Melbourne's many diverse communities while addressing critical issues such as disability, gender, ethnicity, and sexual orientation. Concluding with a celebration of the significance of inclusion, identity, and connection, these narratives encapsulate both personal and collective challenges.

Plot of each short films

In Onir's Nandini, a queer Indian man named Indraneel journeys to Melbourne to perform a ceremonial rite alongside his estranged father. The film explores the complexities of their strained relationship, the power of forgiveness, and the path to healing from grief.

Jules, directed by Arif Ali and Imtiaz Ali, tells the story of a newlywed named Sakshi who forms an unexpected friendship with a homeless woman named Jules. Together, they bridge their differences through connection and collaboratively address their individual struggles.

Emma, directed by Rima Das, follows a talented deaf dancer who grapples with societal prejudice and self-doubt until a chance encounter with another deaf dancer inspires her to embrace her true self.

Setara, directed by Kabir Khan, tells the true story of a young Afghan girl who, at the age of 15, escapes the Taliban and starts anew in Melbourne. Amidst familial challenges and past traumas, she finds a sense of belonging through cricket and resilience. The film's protagonist is portrayed by an actress who embodies a character inspired by her own life experiences.
