All about Mrs.
Directed by Arati Kadav, this drama has received acclaim from both critics and audiences alike for its compelling narrative, exceptional performances, and profound emotional resonance. The film features Sanya Malhotra, alongside Nishant Dahiya and Kanwaljit Singh, and serves as an official remake of the Malayalam film The Great Indian Kitchen.
The narrative centres on a woman who is a trained dancer and instructor. Following her marriage, she becomes ensnared in domestic responsibilities, grappling to establish her own identity, voice, and freedom of expression in light of societal expectations surrounding her married life. The film has ignited extensive conversations among women, with many commending it as a candid and unvarnished portrayal of the challenging realities they encounter on a daily basis.
The film made its debut at the 2023 Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival and was chosen as the closing feature at the 2024 New York Indian Film Festival, where Sanya Malhotra was honoured with the Best Actress award for her outstanding performance.
In discussing her motivation for creating Mrs., Arati Kadav shared, "I believed that this story should be set in North India to reach a broader audience. This film holds significant relevance for North India, and I felt it was essential for them to experience it. I wanted my mother to watch The Great Indian Kitchen, but she could only manage 15-20 minutes due to her unfamiliarity with subtitles, so I decided to create this version specifically for her."
