After a pretty dismal first half of the year, it was only by July that the Kannada film industry finally found a ray of hope. It began with Bheema, followed by Krishnam Pranaya Sakhi (which is headed to OTT this week), Ibbani Tabbida Ileyali, Bagheera, Bhairathi Ranagal, etc On OTT, But for Bhairathi Ranagal, the rest are on OTT, where they’ve got a lot of love.
Here’s a look at the Kannada films that are expected to drop on OTT in December 2024
Bhairathi Ranagal
Century Star Shivarajkumar’s second production venture, Bhairathi Ranagal, was the prequel to the 2017 film Mufti, with the actor reprising his role from the latter, in a story that explored how he came to be a feared crime lord. Directed by Narthan, the film was released in theatres on November 15 and is estimated to have been made in the vicinity of Rs 15 crore (net) in the 10 days it’s been at the box office. During the promotions of Bhairathi Ranagal, Shivarajkumar had hinted that discussions for the satellite and digital rights were on with Zee Network, and the film is expected to drop on the platform sometime in December.
Murphy
Director BSP Varma’s time-travel romance Murphy, which starred Prabhu Mundkur, Ila Veermala, and Roshni Prakash in the lead, ended its theatrical run recently, following which Prabhu, who has also co-written the script had taken to social media stating that the film will be on OTT shortly. According to sources, Murphy, like most other Kannada films, is headed to Amazon Prime Video, with an early December release likely.
Maryade Prashne
RJ Pradeepa wrote and produced Maryade Prashne, directed by Nagaraj Somayaji, which hit theatres on November 22. The film, a class-conflict revenge drama with Rakesh Adiga, Poorna Mysore, Prabhu Mundkur, Teju Belawadi, Suneel Raoh, Rekha Kudligi, among others, on the cast, is expected to be on OTT in December, with the most likely destination Zee Network.
Gowri
Director Indrajit Lankesh’s home production that launched his son Samarjit Lankesh as the leading man and Sanya Iyer as the heroine, released in theatres on August 15 and is yet to make its way to streaming. Given that all of the filmmaker’s previous works are on Sun NXT, the expectation is that Gowri will follow suit shortly.
