It was previously announced that a sequel to the devotional drama Mookuthi Amman is currently in development. On Thursday, the production team officially unveiled Mookuthi Amman 2, featuring Nayanthara reprising her lead role. While the original film was directed by RJ Balaji, the sequel will be directed by Sundar C. Below is all the pertinent information regarding Mookuthi Amman 2.

Mookuthi Amman 2 launched: Nayanthara and Sundar C team up

Actor Nayanthara reprised her titular role in the 2020 Tamil film Mookuthi Amman, which was directed by RJ Balaji. Recently, the sequel to the film was announced, with the actress set to return to her character. Nayanthara will once again take on the leading role in Mookuthi Amman 2.

This project marks Nayanthara's first collaboration with filmmaker Sundar C, as she continues her role from the original film. In addition to her, Regina Cassandra will feature prominently, while Kannada actor Duniya Vijay will make his Tamil film debut in a negative role. The cast also includes actors Ineya, Abhinaya, Yogi Babu, Singampuli, Myna Nandhini, among others. Notably, Nayanthara, who typically refrains from attending public events related to her films, participated in the launch event for Mookuthi Amman 2.

The sequel is being produced by Vels International, with music composed by Hiphop Tamizha.

Nayanthara has been fasting for a week: Mookuthi Amman 2 producer

Speaking at the event, Ishari Ganesh who is producing the film said that Nayanthara has begun fasting for the film since a week, to play the deity role. The actor had observed fast for a month when she played the goddess in the first part as well.

“We wanted to make Mookuthi Amman 2 as a pan-Indian film. No amman films had come so far in the last five years. We wanted to bring a director who can helm a franchise, and it is one and only Sundar C. He requested one month of time after we approached him. He came up with the script, and we went ahead with it,” he said.
