Mookuthi Amman 2, the anticipated sequel to the 2020 film of the same title, was officially announced by the producers during an event in Chennai on Thursday. The film will see actress Nayanthara returning to her prominent lead role. While the original film was directed by actor-director RJ Balaji, the sequel will be under the direction of Sundar C.

Nayanthara is set to collaborate with filmmaker Sundar C for the first time in the forthcoming sequel, Mookuthi Amman 2. For those unfamiliar, Nayanthara portrayed the titular goddess in the 2020 film Mookuthi Amman, which was directed by RJ Balaji, who also featured in the movie. Now, five years later, the production team has announced the sequel, with Nayanthara reprising her lead role.

The primary cast of Mookuthi Amman 2 was revealed during the film's launch event held on Thursday. Kannada actor Duniya Vijay will make his Tamil film debut as the antagonist in this sequel. The cast also includes Regina Cassandra, Yogi Babu, Abhinaya, Ramachandra Raju, Ajay Ghosh, Singam Puli, Vichu Viswanath, Iniya, Mynaa Nandini, among others.

Produced by Vels Film International, the film features music composed by Hiphop Adhi. Gopi Amarnath serves as the cinematographer, while Fenny Oliver is responsible for editing. Venkat Raghavan is writing the dialogues, Gururaj is managing the art direction, and Rajashekar is choreographing the action sequences.

This film was released directly on OTT platforms and received a favorable response upon its debut. Mookuthi Amman represents RJ Balaji’s inaugural venture as a director. He is currently engaged in directing Suriya for a project tentatively titled Suriya 45.
