However, some Twitter accounts are buzzing with rumors that Thudarum might drop in the first week of May, leading fans to speculate about a potential showdown with Suriya's Retro, which is scheduled for May 1, 2025. Here’s the latest scoop on Mohanlal’s Thudarum and the possible face-off with Suriya’s Retro.

Thudarum's release date plans

A bunch of Twitter accounts are buzzing about the makers of Mohanlal’s Thudarum aiming for a May 2, 2025 release. This timing puts it just over a month after Empuraan, which also features Mohanlal. Thudarum is particularly exciting for fans of Malayalam cinema since it marks the return of Mohanlal and Shobana together after quite some time.

Meanwhile, Suriya’s project with Retro, directed by Karthik Subbaraj, is set to hit theaters on May 1, 2025. If Thudarum drops on May 2, we could see a showdown between the Malayalam and Tamil film industries.

The Thudarum team hasn't dropped any official news about when the film will be out yet. Still, they've been keeping the buzz going with new posters and songs. They even came up with a cool idea to give the lead characters, Shanmugam and Lalitha, their own Instagram accounts, played by Mohanlal and Shobana. 

Thudarum and Empuraan are out now

Since Thudarum missed its January 30 release date, Prithviraj Sukumaran’s L2 Empuraan will now be the first Mohanlal film to hit theaters in 2025. The buzz around Empuraan is already off the charts, thanks to the director sharing glimpses of the Lucifer franchise through character videos and posters.

L2 Empuraan is set to make its grand debut on March 27, 2025.
