About the film

In L2 Empuraan, Mohanlal reprises his role as Stephen Nedumpally, also known as Khureshi Ab’raam. With assistance from Zayed (Prithviraj), he returns from abroad to focus on domestic issues, particularly the need to confront CM Jathin Ramdas (Tovino Thomas).

Following criticism for its misleading representation of the 2002 Gujarat riots, the team behind L2 Empuraan made 24 edits to the film, removing scenes that depicted violence against women and a religious structure.

Mohanlal issued a statement of apology, expressing, "I have learned that some of the political and social themes presented in the film Empuran, the sequel to the Lucifer franchise, have caused significant distress to many of my dear ones. As an artist, it is my responsibility to ensure that none of my films promote hatred towards any political movement, ideology, or community."
